Hiking the coastal Path GR92 – Costa Brava – Full Report on day 3 Sant Feliu de Guixols to Palamos – Spain
|I was already starting day 3 of hiking the coastal path GR92 along the Costa Brava. One of the European white/red marked routes numbered GR92. This third day again brought me many fantastic views along the rugged coast as I set off from Sant Feliu de Guixols to head for Palamos.
This lovely day began with a chilly sunshine along the Costa Brava coast. It was already the middle of November, and the evening and morning did get a little cooler. I had had a croissant with cappuccino in my hostal and walked towards the coast. Along the long promenade, I started following the markings of the coastal path GR92 again.
There was a market that morning and it was already in full swing when I walked there. Following the coast, I passed a harbour and there the path went up. The coast was rough, living up to its name, and I walked up to get wider views. The path was again well laid out and I already met many hikers.

A beautiful coastal path along the Costa Brava
At Mirador de les Triadores, I saw a group of people standing. They took up the challenge of descending there, I saw helmets and ropes. What fun! I could definitely take part in such an adventure trip too. Walking on and enjoying the sunshine and the bright blue sky.
I came to walk through a small nature reserve, there were some signs showing what I could see in terms of flora & fauna. The area is called Cala d’Ametller. A little further on, I also came across another sign advertising Via Ferrata in this area. So you can do well here if you like outdoor activities!
The coastline on this coastal path GR92 along the Costa Brava is really beautiful. Beautiful vistas through the greenery and the depth indicated by some rocks in the water. I’m hiking the coastal path GR92 with a smile on my face. Just before I reach the first village of today, I walk through a tunnel along the coast. This is under a house that is situated on the coast. Really beautifully laid out again. I start walking through the neighbourhood of this village along the coast and eventually arrive at the promenade with a fine beach at Platja de San Pol.
At the villa Taverna Laura, I sit down in the shade because by now it has become quite warm again. There I enjoy a delicious cappuccino. Life is good!
At the end of the promenade, just before I leave the bay, it is a bit busier. There is surfing and many people are watching. The sea is rough and so surfers are visibly doing their best to catch the best waves, always nice to see.
After this, I walk along beautiful landscaped paths along the coast. The imposing buildings I pass are beautiful and have great views over the beautiful Costa Brava. How beautiful it is here. I am not walking alone on these beautiful paths today, as it is Sunday. The path also leads me over another small beach and then slightly inland again to walk to Platja Gran d’Aro.

There I get off the path slightly before it because it wants to lead me further to the main beach via the main road first. I do this because my parents celebrated their first holiday together here so many years ago. Finding the campsite and the beach and already calling them to show them the way. Always nice to visit places like this when you practically walk by.
A little later, I am at the main beach. There I enjoy a delicious lunch on the promenade overlooking the busy beach and the beautiful blue sea.
Walking on again, I pass some beautiful little beaches. The paths along the coast are also really so wonderfully made. Around old trees, cut-outs made for rocky outcrops and on one of those rocky outcrops I see a beautiful statue of a man sitting…. This really does capture my imagination…
The water is already rising again and I really have to do my best at the various little beaches to avoid getting my feet wet. This works out quite well and I am able to give some oncoming boaters directions on how and when to cross.
And then I arrive in Palamos. I walk along the long promenade, it is already starting to get late and I am glad when I notice that my hotel is just before the old town. Quickly I check in and take a nice shower. The hotel is really super. I have a beautiful room with a super nice shower.
Full report of day 3
Sant Feliu de Guixols to Palamos – Spain
Just before sunset, I go for a short walk through the town.
Everywhere I can smell the smoke of roasting chestnuts. I had never bought them before and so I do… And I must honestly admit that I liked the smell of the smoke in the streets more than the chestnuts. I prefer to eat them raw then.
That evening, I eat a delicious pancake with salmon in one of those old streets.
Also want to read the report on day 2? That day I walked from Tossa de Mar to Sant Feliu de Guixols.
Disctance, hieght and duration- Sant Feliu de Guixols to Palamos
The distance I covered today was 16.78 km. It still involved 741 descents and 743 ascents, I read with surprise. Most of this is because you walk along the coast and then descend to the beaches and climb a bit higher again. I didn’t really realise it was that much.
Lunch on the way?
I ate my lunch on the beach at Platja D’aro. Along this promenade you can find several restaurants and places to have lunch and relax. It was also perfect halfway along this day’s route.
Stay in Palamos
In Palamos, I had a lovely hotel. I had chosen Hotel Vostra Llar for this night (62 euros) and I was very happy with it. It had a great room with a lovely bathroom. I was also able to get a very nice breakfast there in the morning. It is just outside the busy part of the city centre but really only a 5-minute walk away so ideal.
Hiking the coastal path is truly wonderful
